Curse of Benfica

Benfica is cursed and can’t win a Euran trophy until maybe after the year 2062. Their only two European trophies were won by Hungarian coach, Béla Guttmann. He won the 1960-61 and 1961-62 European Cup which is now known as the champions league.

He was promised a pay rise for winning the 19961-62 European Cup. He beat Real Madrid in the 19961-62 final and when he asked for the pay rise, the club refused. He got angry, cursed the club and left as head coach. He told them they’ll have to wait for 100 years before winning a European championship. 🗣 “Not in a hundred years from now will Benfica ever be European champions.”

Since then, the club has played eight European finals and they lost all eight. 60 years has passed since he cursed them. They have 40 more years ahead. He died in 1981 at age 82. He was born in 1899.
